This page explains who operates Colonial Coinage and what terms apply when you use the Colonial Coinage app or website (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use and to the separate Privacy Policy and Delete Account pages.

 

1. Operator & Acceptance

Colonial Coinage is operated from the United Kingdom by a sole individual publisher:

  • The separate Privacy Policy
  • Any other policies referenced there

If you do not agree, you should not use the Service and should uninstall the app.

 

Age

 

The Service is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using Colonial Coinage, please contact support@colonialcoinage.app so their account and associated data can be removed where appropriate.

 

Jurisdiction

 

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless a different mandatory jurisdiction is required by applicable law.

 

2. Historical Awareness

 

Colonial Coinage is a catalogue and collection manager for coinage issued under British authority. It records coins, issuing authorities and related historical context.

 

The Service does not celebrate empire and does not aim to promote nostalgia or glorification.

Coins are presented as historical objects so that collectors and researchers can study the past with accuracy and care.

 

Collectors come to this material for many reasons—history, design, research. The goal is to present information plainly, responsibly and with awareness of the harm associated with colonial rule.

 

3. Writing and Citations

 

All written content in Colonial Coinage (including coin descriptions, historical notes and context) is created specifically for this project:

  • Text is researched and written from scratch; it is not copied or lightly reworded from other publications.
  • Recognised references may be consulted (mint reports, standard catalogues, archives, specialist studies) to check facts, but the wording is original.

To keep pages readable, inline citations are generally avoided.

 

Where applicable, sources and citations are listed under the Historical Context heading for each coin, at the end of that section.

Short quotations, if used, are clearly marked as quotes and credited.

 

History evolves. When better evidence appears, entries may be updated. To report an error, please email support@colonialcoinage.app.

 

4. Terms of Use

 

4.1 Your account

  • You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account.
  • Accounts that breach these terms, create risk for other users, or cause technical or legal issues may be suspended or terminated.

4.2 Acceptable use

 

When using the Service, you must not:

  • Share or post illegal content.
  • Infringe the intellectual property rights of others (e.g. unauthorised copying or distribution).
  • Harass, threaten or abuse others, or engage in hate speech or doxxing.
  • Share sexually explicit content involving minors or other exploitative material.
  • Upload malware, attempt hacking, or otherwise disrupt or overload the Service.
  • Use the Service to run scams, spam or other deceptive practices.

4.3 Pricing & features

  • The app is currently free to use.
  • Optional paid features or subscriptions may be introduced in future.
  • On Android, all in-app purchases will be processed exclusively via Google Play Billing. No external payment methods are used for in-app purchases.
  • Where reasonably possible, notice will be given before material changes take effect.
  • Refunds are not guaranteed unless required by law in your jurisdiction.

4.4 Disclaimers

 

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • No guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
  • No guarantee that information is complete, up-to-date or suitable for any particular purpose.
  • No guarantee of data preservation beyond what is required for normal operation.

You remain responsible for backing up your own data (including your coin records) if you need to keep them independently of the Service.

 

4.5 Limitation of liability

 

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • The operator is not liable for any indirect, special, incidental or consequential damages, including loss of profits, goodwill, data or other intangible losses.
  • The total liability of the operator for any claim in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of:
  1. £50, or
  2. The amount you actually paid for the app or Service in that period (if any).

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited

Your statutory rights are not affected.

 

4.6 Indemnity

 

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator from and against any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:

  • Your content
  • Your behaviour (including messaging and community use)
  • Your breach of these terms or of applicable law

4.7 Termination

 

You may stop using the Service at any time and may uninstall the app or make use of the separate Delete Account process.

 

The operator may suspend or terminate access immediately and without notice where:

  • These terms are breached
  • There is a risk to other users or systems
  • There are repeated abuse reports
  • A legal or security reason requires it

Where possible and appropriate, a brief explanation may be provided, but this is not guaranteed.

 

4.8 Third-party services

The Service makes use of third-party services (for example, Google Firebase). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to those components.

You are responsible for reviewing those third-party terms where relevant.

 

5. Messaging & Abuse Policy

 

Colonial Coinage may offer direct messaging or similar communication features between users.

  • Direct messages are private between the sender and recipient(s).
  • The operator does not pre-screen all messages and is not responsible for what users choose to send.
  • Users should not share sensitive personal information in messages.

Prohibited behaviour in messages includes:

  • Harassment, bullying, threats or intimidation
  • Hate speech or incitement to violence
  • Sexually explicit content involving minors
  • Illegal activity, doxxing or sharing of private data without consent
  • Malware, phishing, scams and spam

Reporting and enforcement

  • Abuse and violations should be reported via in-app tools (where available) or by emailing support@colonialcoinage.app.
  • Offending content may be removed.
  • Accounts may be limited, suspended or terminated immediately and without notice at the operator’s discretion.
  • Where appropriate, reports may be passed to law enforcement.

6. No Financial Advice

 

All information, insights, strategies and assistant suggestions in Colonial Coinage—whether in the app, on the website or in related materials—are provided for information and entertainment purposes only.

 

They do not constitute:

  • Financial advice
  • Investment advice
  • Professional valuation or appraisal

You are solely responsible for your collecting and financial decisions. Always do your own research and, if needed, seek independent professional advice.

 

7. Cookies & Tracking (Web)

 

The Colonial Coinage website may use cookies and similar technologies.

  • Strictly necessary cookies may be used for sign-in, security and core functionality.
  • Analytics cookies may be used, where permitted, to understand how the website is used and to improve performance.

If you disable certain cookies, parts of the website may not function correctly.

 

8. Sync, Local Storage & Sign-Out (Important Notice)

 

The Colonial Coinage app is offline-first and uses both local storage and cloud sync (“Cabinet”):

  • Changes save locally on your device first and sync to your cloud Cabinet when you are online.
  • While offline, your collection is stored on the device.
  • When connectivity is available, sync resumes automatically in the background.
  • Multiple devices can be used; each device syncs when connected.

Important:

  • Do not sign out of the app while offline if you have unsynced changes.
  • Signing out clears local data ready for a different user, and any unsynced changes may be lost.

Best practice: stay signed in. If you need to sign out, ensure the app is online and allow time for sync to complete.
