This Privacy Policy explains how Colonial Coinage (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects information when you:
- use the Colonial Coinage mobile and web apps, and
- visit our websites, including colonialcoinage.co.uk and colonialcoinage.app (together, “the services”).

Information we collect
We collect the following types of information when you use the services:
1. Account information
- Email address and a unique user ID created through Firebase Authentication.
- Basic profile details you choose to add (such as screen name and avatar).
2. Collection data
- Photos you choose or take with your device’s camera when adding coin images.
- Details you record about your coins (for example grades, notes, prices paid, and other fields you enter in the app).
3. Usage, analytics and crash data
To keep the app stable and understand how it is used in general terms, we collect:
- Basic usage information (for example which screens are used most).
- Technical information such as device type, app version and operating system.
- Crash reports and performance data.
This is usually handled via third-party tools such as Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics.
4. Website logs
When you visit our websites, our hosting providers may automatically collect:
- IP address
- Browser type and basic device information
- Pages visited and time of visit
These logs are used for security, troubleshooting and basic usage statistics.
We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not run personalised ad tracking on our sites or in the app.
How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
Provide the core features of Colonial Coinage
- Display and sync your coin collection and photos across your devices
- Store your collection data securely in the cloud
- Support features such as marketplace listings (where available)
Maintain and improve the services
- Fix bugs and crashes
- Monitor reliability and performance
- Understand overall app usage in an anonymous, aggregated way
Keep your account secure
- Authenticate you via Firebase Authentication
- Detect abuse or unauthorised access
Communicate with you
- Respond to support requests or questions you send to us
- Inform you about important changes to the app or this policy
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Legal basis
Where data protection laws apply (for example in the UK or EU), we process your information on the following bases:
- To perform our contract with you – for example, to provide and maintain the app you have chosen to use.
- Our legitimate interests – for example, to keep the app secure, understand general usage and improve the service.
- Your consent – where required, for example if you contact us directly and ask us to handle your request.
Where your data is stored and how it is protected
We use trusted third-party providers to store and process data, mainly:
- Google Firebase (Firestore, Firebase Storage, Firebase Authentication, Functions) for app data and images.
- Hosting providers (such as Firebase Hosting and IONOS) for the websites.
All transfers between the app, websites and our servers are encrypted via HTTPS.
Access to your data is protected through your Firebase-linked account credentials. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information, but no online service can be guaranteed 100% secure.
Sharing of information
We share your information only in limited circumstances:
- Service providers – with companies that provide services on our behalf, such as Google (Firebase) and hosting providers. They are only allowed to use your data to provide these services to us.
- Legal reasons – where we are required to do so by law, regulation or legal process, or to protect our rights and those of other users.
- If the service is transferred – if Colonial Coinage is ever sold or transferred, user data may transfer as part of that process. If that happens, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the new controller respects this policy.
We do not share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep your information
- We keep your account and collection data for as long as your account is active.
- If you request deletion of your account, we will remove or anonymise your personal data from our active systems, except where we are required to keep certain records for legal or security reasons.
- Log files and backups may be kept for a limited period and then deleted or anonymised.
Your choices and rights
In the app, you can:
- Add, edit or delete individual coins and photos.
- Remove notes or other information you have entered.
Deleting your account and data
- You can request full account or data deletion by emailing support@colonialcoinage.app.
- We also provide step-by-step instructions on our “Delete Account” page.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion or restriction of processing
- Object to certain types of processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format

Children
The app and websites are designed for general audiences and are not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe we may have collected information about a child without proper consent, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may also notify you inside the app or on the website.
